As a first step toward optimal healthy longevity in the progress toward immortality we know that those genetically fortunate individuals with 'longevity syndrome' have a clear vascular system and do not develop atherosclerosis due to either high HDL-cholesterol levels or low LDL-cholesterol levels. Thus it is important to start now and adjust blood lipid values to approximate those found naturally in those with 'longevity syndrome'. There are wonders ahead with molecules to double HDL-cholesterol levels and sirtuins to mimic the life extension effects of 'famine syndrome' already in clinical trials. We are on the verge of an astonishing era.

Hello Sean!

I've read your article with great interest cause I'm also interested in life extension and Vascular Health is one of the most important things.
Please tell me which method you personally consider is the best to lowering blood cholesterol?

Hello John,

I use the statin Zocor (simvastatin) and have lowered my LDL-cholesterol to around 40 mg/dL with 40 mg/day. I take 200 mg Coenzyme Q10 ubiquinol to compensate for the statin's reduction of Coenzyme Q10 production. I prefer Zocor to other statins because of its known ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and recent evidence that it benefits cognitive function (see my Gazette below). I also take 4 capsules of omega-3 fish oils a day (EPA/DHA 350 mg/250 mg each). These keep my triglyceride level at about a comfortable 120 mg/dL while in combination with the Zocor have brought my C-reactive protein level down below 0.10 mg/L - thus very cardioprotective against heart attack and stroke. I of course also have a diet rich in vegetables and drink diluted pomegranate juice as my regular drink of choice making sure I take at least 8 ounces of juice a day. I'm currently working on raising my HDL-cholesterol with exercise, gamma E tocopherols to raise my apolipoprotein A level (I was low) and am considering taking fenofibrate. These of course are just a 'holding pattern' until a CETP inhibitor reaches approval. Merck's anacetrapib looks to be the closest, possibly within two years, and early clinical data indicates it can raise HDL-cholesterol by more than 100%. So by 2010 I hope to be on my own personal anti-agathics of Zocor and Anacetrapib - chuckle - reminiscent of the James Blish book Cities in Flight!

Hi fellow members,

I'm pleased to see that we've passed the 20 member point. Let's all start thinking of ways to build membership. I'd be interested in the implications for society when increasing numbers of people are as healthy in their post 65 years as when they were in their 30s and 40s ... re people attempting to reenter the work force against entrenched attitudes trying to stop them. Do we have a social scientist on board to think about this topic, maybe write an essay?

As for myself...latest blood tests...total cholesterol down to 106 mg/dL, LDL-cholesterol down to 44 mg/dL, C-reactive protein below 0.10 mg/L. Getting near those 'longevity syndrome levels'! Feeling fine and healthy. Still thinking of beginning fenofibrate to raise HDL-cholesterol. Has anyone any experience of adding fenofibrate to a statin?

Thank you for your help! Yes we've passed 20 member point. But the discussion process is still very slow. We plan to invite several specialists in different areas: social science, medicine, history, philosophy…
We are going to build the solid theory or lifestyle with the final aim – Physical Immortality.
Concerning your question about fenofibrate – I don’t use any kind of medicine (may be cause I’m young :D ). Your blood test results are amazing!

Another step forward for vascular health occurred December 15, 2008, when the FDA approved Trilipix for use with a statin. Published data indicates that the combination will raise HDL-cholesterol levels by 20% and lower triglycerides by 40% as well as the expected significant lowering of LDL-cholesterol. This is most significant for men with HDL-cholesterol <40mg/dL. I've provided hyperlinks in my Erinpharm december gazette for those who wish to read further. I continue my focus on means to mimic the longevity syndrome blood lipid levels of genetically fortunate centenarians and centenarian teens. One step at a time to a very long life! Let's all live long enough through to dramatic progress in life extension!
